Politics in Malawi

He is the president of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). DPP is the ruling political party in Malawi which was started by the third president of the Republic of Malawi.  In 2009 he was elected as a Member of the Malawi parliament.  Peter Mutharika served as minister of Agriculture, minister of foreign affairs, minister of Education, Science, and Technology, and minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Peter Mutharika won the 2014 general elections and was sworn as the president of Malawi on May 30, 2014. He won the election by gaining 36.4% of the total. Eleven other people contested in the May election including Joyce Banda, Lazarus Chakwera and Atupele Muluzi.
